Over the last 20 years there has been an abundant amount of research which has linked periodontal disease with an increased risk of heart, liver, lung, kidney disease and an increase in the evidence of diabetes.
A recent study released by the University of Buffalo found an association between periodontal disease and cancer.
The study included 65,869 postmenopausal women and found the women who had been advised by their dentist or hygienist they had periodontal disease had a 14% increased risk of cancer.
