Recently, I have provided expert testimony in a number of cases where patients went to a corporate dental facility and ended up with upper and lower dentures. Complete dentures are a reasonable treatment option for patients with non-restorable dentition or patients with advanced severe periodontal disease. Complete dentures should never be a treatment option for a patient who has an intact dentition and needs a couple fillings or crowns.
Patients should be aware that they are not a stage in life, I mean just cause you are 50 doesn’t mean it’s time for dentures. Dentures are a huge compromise in your ability to chew. There is a significant impairment (50%) in patient’s ability to taste with complete dentures versus patients with an intact dentition.
