Lady Astor to Churchill “If I were married to you, I’d put poison in your coffee” Churchill to Lady Astor “If I were married to you, I’d drink it”
Our office routinely takes vital signs on our patients, blood pressure, pulse, respirations, and temperature. There are many reasons for us performing this task, the most important is to get baselines of your vitals and to alert our patients of any significant changes in their vitals. Many of our patients do not make routine visits to their primary care doctor (If they even have one).
So our monitoring can alert a patient if their vitals are outside of the norm for their age.
Monitoring your blood pressure routinely can be an important tool in preventing a stroke, or cardiovascular event. We strongly encourage our patients to purchase an at home blood pressure monitor to keep a close eye on the numbers. A normal blood pressure should be at least or below 120/80. If your upper number is over 180, that is a hypertensive crisis and you should seek immediate medical attention. If your lower number is over 120, that also is a hypertensive crisis and you should seek immediate medical attention.
Sincerely,
Michael W. Dagostino, DDS.
