Anyone who knows me, understand my distaste for tobacco products. The effects of smoking was responsible for my father’s and many patients and friend’s early death. I have advocated smoking cessation in any manner available to anyone interested in quitting. I recently came across a medical journal article that related early smoking (teens) and the prolonged time to puberty in males.
The article also correlated early smoking in males and the reduction in secondary sexual characteristics. Secondary sex characteristics are deepening of the voice, broadening of the shoulders, growth of facial hair, and muscle development. The study also found that early smoking can alter male and female hormone levels, and cause a reduction in sperm count and motility in males.
