The emergence of the Covid-19 variant Omicron has caused stress and anxiety worldwide. The fact is that although this mutated virus has changed its spike proteins, its symptoms are at least at this time mild in comparison to the Delta variant, and the original Covid-19. The obvious concern is the unknown, the virus transmissibility and its mortality rate. This virus originated from the southern region of Africa where the vaccination rate is extremely low.
Shockingly the vaccination rate in the U.S is 59.4% with 70.8% receiving at least 1 vaccine. This puts the U.S somewhere in the middle of the world wide rates. Many of the countries with lower rates than the U.S., don’t have easy access to the vaccine. This rate obviously ignores the millions who have had Covid-19, and therefore have antibody protection.
