Dear Patient,
“Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn” Benjamin Franklin
I have been treating TMD or TMJ dysfunction since 1980. During that time much has changed, and my treatment protocol has been greatly refined due to the advances in technology and dental metallurgy. For many years I experienced frustration with the retention phase of the treatment. I used virtually every retainer appliance known to man with varying degrees of success. About 15 years ago I met Dr. Ralph Garcia, who introduced me to his amazing retainer named the Garcia Night. It is a combination of (5) retainers designed in one.
It is a proprioreception appliance, so you won’t clench. It is an anterior repositioning appliance so it opens up your airway. It is an anti snoring appliance by posturing the lower jaw down and forward. It is a muscle shielding appliance, which keeps the masseter, buccinator and obcularis oris from compressing your teeth. Finally, by design it allows the lower posterior teeth to supererupt, to regain any intrusion that occurs during the day. This beautiful appliance was the final piece of the puzzle in my exhaustive search to cure my patients of their debilitating disease.
Should you or someone you love have questions about the “Garcia Night” appliance, contact our office for a consultation.
Sincerely,
Michael W. Dagostino DDS
