“All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn’t hurt” Charles M. Schulz.

Many of my patients have had prosthetic joint implants. In January 2015 the American Dental Association released clinical practice guidelines for those patients. In general for patients with prosthetic joint implants, prophylactic antibiotics are not recommended prior to dental procedures to prevent prosthetic joint infection.
According to the A.D.A, for patients with a history of complications associated with their joint replacement surgery, a consultation with the patient’s orthopedic surgeon would be necessary to determine if antibiotic pre-medication is necessary.
Should you or someone you love have any questions related to antibiotic pre-medication for a patient with a prosthetic joint, please call our office for a complimentary consultation.

Sincerely,
Michael W. Dagostino, DDS.
